Keep Your Kids Entertained with 4 Northern Virginia Kids Activities

Now that we’re heading into the summer, you can bet on some hot Virginia summer days. This weather can be great for grabbing a drink by the pool or spending the day getting caught up in a book. It’s not exactly ideal, however, when you have kids with endless energy to burn. You need spots to head that will either get you out of the heat entirely or at least distract your child so they’re not complaining. As a Northern Virginia family photographer, I get the chance to chat with parents about their favorite places to go throughout the year. Here are some of their favorite Northern Virginia kids activities.

Make This Summer Extra Exciting With These Fun Northern Virginia Kids Activities

Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum

21668 Heritage Farm Lane, Sterling, Virginia 20164

Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum gives your Northern Virginia kids engaging activities to learn how we get the food from the field to the table. This museum is filled with historical tools that have helped farmers throughout the ages. Your child can see everything from agricultural tools to antique tractors. They can also check out hands-on exhibits, including the Children’s Farm, Grandma’s Kitchen, or Ms. Su’s Schoolhouse.

Colvin Run Mill Historic Site

10017 Colvin Run Road, Great Falls, Virginia 22066

Colvin Run Mill Historic Site offers endless opportunities no matter what you’re in the mood for. If you feel like spending some time outside in Northern Virginia, you can go for a hike through the lush woods or pack up a picnic to enjoy the site. Inside the mill, you will find a general store and regular demonstrations that show off the history of the building. The mill gets to work twice a month, performing the same jobs it originally performed in 1811. The area has new activities each month, which gives you a way to learn about the area’s industrial history.

NOVA Wild

1228 Hunter Mill Road, Vienna, Virginia 22182

NOVA Wild is a non-profit zoo that seeks to put the welfare of the animals above all else. Of course, you’re going to get to view some really adorable animals while you’re here. However, you’re also going to learn all about conservation and the efforts that are being made to safeguard the creatures for future Northern Virginia generations in some fun kids activities. The park offers daily tickets and season passes, so you can stop by as much as you’d like.
