Are you looking for a midwifery who can walk alongside you for every part of your journey, from preconception to postpartum care, and can provide a safe out-of-hospital birthing experience? Sage Midwifery is a wonderful choice if you said yes to all that!
Sage Midwifery is a local midwifery business that is incredibly passionate about providing inclusive, trauma-informed, evidence-based care for ALL family structures. Sam, the Founder & President of Sage Midwifery, is especially proud to serve people from the LGBTQ+ community, communities of color, and rural communities. She also serves people living in low-income households, people with differing abilities, people who have children later in life, and people of all body sizes.
Sam Sewell is a Certified Professional Midwife and a Licensed Midwife in both Virginia and Maryland. On her team are Linsay Hiller, the Director of Community Engagement, and Latasha, a Student Midwife. Linsay strives to build community and fill the Sage office with engaging, inclusive, unique events and services. Latasha attended her first birth at a whopping 6 years old and is a student at Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery.
Sage Midwifery offers homebirth care and a comprehensive package for midwifery care from conception to postpartum. Care is ‘client-centered’ and they wholeheartedly believe in a holistic approach to care that is centered on the pregnant person and their family.
Their Midwifery Package covers all prenatal care, care during labor and birth, & 6 postpartum visits for parent and baby.
To make homebirth more accessible, Sam offers a sliding scale for families in need, which includes two completely pro-bono clients per year. Contact them today if you have any questions about homebirth services or the sliding scale tiers.
Preconception care is available through Sage Midwifery for preconception and fertility health consultations. During your consultation, you will discuss nutrition, charting and reviewing cycle charts, and referrals for other modalities that promote fertility. Sam will help you understand how to chart your cycle and come to your home to perform the in-home intrauterine insemination when it’s time. You must live within 40 miles of their office for them to come to your home. If you live outside of this radius, they can perform the IUI in their office for you. There are few midwifes in Northern VA that offer these services.
The other really unique aspect of Sage Midwifery is the community they cultivate for their clients. They offer a ‘Womb Circle: A Third Trimester Gathering’ and a ‘Surrender to Birth’ workshop exclusively for Sage Midwifery clients. The third trimester gathering is for third trimester clients in that same due date window, that focuses on the final emotional and mental preparations before the baby arrives. The birth workshop focuses on exploring the fears clients might hold about birth.
With all the services they offer and their client-forward approach, Sage Midwifery is sure to be all you need and more to help put you in control of your conception and/or pregnancy journey from conceiving to delivering and beyond.
