Services

Sage Midwifery offers homebirth care and a comprehensive package for midwifery care from conception to postpartum. Care is ‘client-centered’ and they wholeheartedly believe in a holistic approach to care that is centered on the pregnant person and their family.

Their Midwifery Package covers all prenatal care, care during labor and birth, & 6 postpartum visits for parent and baby.

  • Prenatal Care includes:
    • Monitoring blood pressure, listening to fetal heart tones, and measuring the pregnant person’s belly
    • Discussing topics beyond the clinical, such as nutrition, parenting, sex, and stress
    • Visits in-office once per month until 28 weeks, every two weeks until 36 weeks, and weekly until birth. For the  20 week and 36 week prenatal visits, Sam comes to your home. Clients can arrange for all visits to be in their home for an additional $50/home visit.
  • Birth & Postpartum Care:
    •  Attendance for the labor, birth, and immediate postpartum by midwife Sam, another midwife/birth assistant, and a student
    • 6 postpartum visits that are usually an hour or longer appointments, where they weigh baby, determine vitals on parent and baby, discuss breastfeeding/chestfeeding and any other topics.
    • The newborn metabolic screen and newborn critical congenital heart defect screening (CCHD) are also performed 24 hours postpartum.

To make homebirth more accessible, Sam offers a sliding scale for families in need, which includes two completely pro-bono clients per year. Contact them today if you have any questions about homebirth services or the sliding scale tiers.

Specialty

Preconception care is available through Sage Midwifery for preconception and fertility health consultations. During your consultation, you will discuss nutrition, charting and reviewing cycle charts, and referrals for other modalities that promote fertility. Sam will help you understand how to chart your cycle and come to your home to perform the in-home intrauterine insemination when it’s time. You must live within 40 miles of their office for them to come to your home. If you live outside of this radius, they can perform the IUI in their office for you. There are few midwifes in Northern VA that offer these services.

The other really unique aspect of Sage Midwifery is the community they cultivate for their clients. They offer a ‘Womb Circle: A Third Trimester Gathering’ and a ‘Surrender to Birth’ workshop exclusively for Sage Midwifery clients. The third trimester gathering is for third trimester clients in that same due date window, that focuses on the final emotional and mental preparations before the baby arrives. The birth workshop focuses on exploring the fears clients might hold about birth.
