We’ve once again come to that magical time of year when Northern Virginia is just too hot to function. The weather can make it pretty tricky when you’re trying to figure out how to keep your kids entertained while still staying active. Luckily, we have some pretty good splash pads that make it all a little easier! These interactive water features are the perfect place to go when you want to head out, meet some friends, and let your kids get out some of their seemingly endless energy. As a family photographer, I get the chance to chat with lots of parents about their go-to places for their children. Here are some of my clients’ favorite splash pads around Fairfax, VA.
6601 Telegraph Road, Franconia, Virginia 22310
Franconia Family Recreation Area allows you to explore the high seas without ever leaving the land! This Chesapeake Bay-themed splash pad is fully accessible and offers your Fairfax, VA child hands-on activities such as water tables. The park requires that all kids wear water shoes or sandals with a manufactured back strap.
1400 Lake Fairfax Drive, Reston, Virginia 20190
Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole is a slightly more expansive splash pad with activities for the entire Fairfax, VA family. Older siblings will adore the water slides and the lazy river, while younger kids will love the tot-sized playground. This park gets pretty busy on weekends and holidays, so make sure you plan accordingly! They do offer sensory-friendly hours throughout the summer.
8350 Broad Street, Tysons, Virginia 22102
The Boro is a district created to be family-friendly all year round. From movie theaters to outdoor barre classes, they always have the perfect option for your next day out. This urban splash pad features 15 jets that shoot up from the concrete. Grab some delicious food, top it off with Jeni’s Ice Cream, and then spend some time splashing through the puddles.
7700 Bull Run Drive, Centreville, Virginia 20121
Atlantis Waterpark is another expansive option for the entire family outside Fairfax, VA. There is an exhilarating water ride, several open slides, and a pool. While these main areas might be a little more stressful for younger kids, the park has a play island with smaller slides meant for toddlers and preschoolers.
2905 District Ave, Fairfax, Virginia 22031
Mosaic Interactive Fountain is another urban park surrounded by some of the city’s most beloved businesses. The fountain has several jets coming out from the concrete. Just know that this spot has a few strict rules in place to keep the fountains safe and clean. No running, horseplay, bubbles, food, or drinks are available in the play area.
With these Fairfax, VA splash pads, you’ll be on your way to making this your most unforgettable summer yet! And if you could find a few more ways to make memories this season, that’s where I come in.
