Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center – Chantilly, VA

We love this place. Firstly, the Space Shuttle Discovery is here! And honestly, there’s thousands of aviation and space artifacts to see in this large museum. You could spend all morning   here. And if you get hungry, they now have a Shake Shack restaurant available with all the favorite menu items from their restaurants. Best of all, there are baby care/nursing rooms close to every public restroom in the museum for all my nursing mamas out there.

They are open every day except Christmas day, which is quite amazing. Free admission, just pay $15 to park there. As it is a national museum, there are security protocols and certain items you can’t bring so please be sure to visit their website to make sure you’re in compliance. Strollers and bottled water are welcome, food and open drinks are not.

Wegmeyer Farm – Hamilton, VA

Are you ready for some strawberry picking? You may not know this but picking strawberries is a very quintessential summer thing to do in Loudoun County and a great way to kick off the season. Their farm opens around early May and runs until about mid-June. They have two strawberry picking locations, one in their home farm in Hamilton and one in their Oatlands field in Leesburg. Not only that but they *may* have a u-pick sunflower field again this year!

Reservations are available for both of their farm locations online and are easy to make. As an FYI, they do not do advance reservations due to the daily change in supply and field conditions. Reservations open typically around 6pm the evening prior for the next day’s picking. You must have a reservation to pick strawberries! My family (*cough*Wes*cough*) LOVES going strawberry picking!!

Rust Sanctuary – Leesburg, VA

If you need something a bit more low-key to balance the outdoor fun, what better place than this nature sanctuary? To expend some energy, there are plenty of walking trails throughout the sanctuary and 2 ponds on the property. After your exploration through the wooded trails, pluck your butts at their picnic area to enjoy a nice lunch!

Volcano Island Waterpark

Guess who’s taking her son here later this summer? This photographer right here. This waterpark is *just* the thing to do on a hot, summer day. At first, this park might look a bit overwhelming for those with really little ones. But there is a shallow big play feature with fountains, squirters, platforms, and even a small kiddie slide. And then for the bigger kids, bring on the big waterslides, the gigantic dumping bucket that fills with 500-gallons of water, and the big pool complete with a tree stump slide.

Before you go, know that you purchase tickets on-site only. The rates differ depending on weekday versus weekend so be sure to check out the fees. Pro-tip: Weekdays after 4 pm are $6.25 to enter.
